Pastoral Residency

Do you feel called to church planting? Or do you desire to learn and train in pastoral ministry in one of the world’s most secular and multicultural cities? We believe there is no city in the world better than Toronto for training future pastors for ministry in our multicultural and secularizing world. Consider applying for one of our three pastoral residency options at Christ Church Toronto!

Church Planting Residency

Toronto consists of 158 neighbourhoods and the Greater Toronto Area consists of 25 municipalities. Many of these neighbourhoods and municipalities are in need of more gospel-centred churches and provide the perfect setting for a church planting residency. Utilizing Redeemer New York’s City to City Incubator Curriculum, the  goal of this residency is to prepare candidates to plant gospel-centred churches upon completion. Though not everyone will feel called to plant in Toronto, the resident will research a neighbourhood or region as part of the residency training while also sharpening their skills in pastoral ministry in a multicultural and secular city like Toronto.

Pastoral Residency

The pastoral residency program exists to prepare individuals for a career in full-time vocational ministry. The program seeks to immerse each resident in a two-year intensive training program with the goal that the resident develop in seven core competencies related to pastoral ministry. The goal of this program is to flood Canadian churches with competent, evaluated and prepare pastors who will provide pastoral leadership for gospel-centred, culture engaging churches into the future. We see Toronto as a strategic city for multicultural ministry engagement in a post-Christian context. It is our hope to see so many residents sent out, that Toronto again becomes a major sending city for pastoral leadership around the world!

Seminary Internship

Future pastors and ministry workers should not just go to seminary, they ought to be sent. Christ Church Toronto, in partnership with the Reformed House of Studies at Wycliffe College, seeks to provide an environment in which seminarians will not only develop the skills necessary to seek ordination but also experience ministry in a local church. Though our internship program is set up to fulfil requirements for Masters of Divinity Students within the Reformed House of Studies, we are willing to consider internships for other seminaries.

What others are saying

"My Pastoral / Church Planting residency at Christ Church Toronto provided an invaluable space for me to gain a greater sense of calling into pastoral ministry as I experienced a wide range of practical training and oversight. It also helped me develop a number of interpersonal and administrative skills in preparation to become a pastor while cultivating a love for Jesus and his Church as I worked closely with the leadership of the church. I sincerely pray other individuals are able to share in the same formative experience that I received through this residency program."

“Christ Church Toronto’s Pastoral Internship provided a platform to identify and develop gifts and passions that have proved foundational in furthering my church planting journey. Practical training was accompanied by a focus on personal growth, under a caring and wise leadership, that cultivated a love for God, his Word, and his church. My prayer is for an equally impactful foundational experience for others just like me, those considering the call to pastoral ministry.”
